Senior Housemaster

Sogakofe Senior High School was established in 1961 with Mr. E. K. Datsa and Mr. Rex Apede as the first Headmaster and Housemaster respectively. The initial number of teachers were five (5) male teachers only with thirteen (13) students, comprising nine (9) boys and four (4) girls at the first day of re-opening in 1961.

As the school began to grow, it became necessary to create three (3) houses to cater for the growing students' population. The boys occupied the top of the Senior Block classroom while the girls occupied the current Science Resource Centre. Fact was established that, all along this time, there was no female teacher on the staff hence the girls did not have a Housemistress and were living on their own for some time. The Current Board person, Mrs. Esi Vandyke, was one of the first female students who started the school in the afore mentioned year.

After 1966, the Government started putting up new dormitories for the students. Names of the premier houses were as follows: House 1, House 2, House 3 with their identified colours of Yellow, Blue, and Green respectively. Currently, the school has house four (4) houses: Volta House (Yellow), John Miller (Blue), Kwame Nkrumah House (Green) and Datsa House (Red).

Boys bear the same house name and colours like the girls, and all day students are also affiliated to one of these houses. There are three separate blocks and only one permanent or main block that serves as residence for female boarders. Presently, the main block houses Volta, John Miller and Kwame Nkrumah for girls only. The other two blocks which were temporal  have John Miller House occupying the Visual Art Department block and the Block code named "Little SPA" is also occupied by the spill over from the four houses. The boys have two (2) separate blocks named "Senior and Junior" blocks. The "Senior Block" is occupied by Volta and John Miller boys whilst the "Junior Block" is occupied by Kwame Nkrumah and Datsa boys.

The school compound is shared among the four (4) houses and daily cleaning is done by their members. Each house is responsible for the general cleaning of their allocated plots. There are ornamental plants all over the compound which are directly under the care of the houses. Weeding, sweeping, scrubbing and removal of cob-webs are some of the activities carried out to maintain a serene environment. All the houses compete in the following areas every term: House Sports, Inspection, Debates, Quizzes, and Talent Hunting. The winning house is duly rewarded through the presentation of trophies, certificates, etc.

The school has garments or clothing used for specific activities and for easy identification. Both day and boarding students are not allowed to use unprescribed clothing on campus. Footwears should be either brown or black in colour. Sandals should not have heels more than 2cm high and shoes not more than 3cm. Belts for both sexes should not be more than 4cm wide. Bracelets and necklaces are not allowed. Tiny earrings are however allowed but not to hang or dangle.

Visitors are allowed on the first Saturdays and Sundays from 2pm to 5pm of every month. Visitors on arrival register with the Senior House Parent before their wards would be invited to meet them at the approved venue. Visitors are not allowed to go to the dormitories or classrooms.

Despite the housing structures mention, there is a need for additional dormitories for boys and girls. The existing dormitories also need urgent rehabilitation to meet the rapid growing student population of the school.

Generally, discipline in the school has improved remarkably. Thanks to the hardworking housing staff, teaching and non-teaching staff. Finally, I would like to honour the Past Senior House Parents for their indefatigable services during their tenure of office. Few to mention are: Mr. Ahafia, Mr. M. H. K. Zahson, Mr. Kukubor, Mr. Kporngor, Mr. Doe Agbemabiase, Mr. D. K. Eworyi, Mr. S. K. Klu, Mr. F. D. K. Dunya, Ms. C. A. Dzobo.
