On saturday morning, 21st September,2013 Kwame Nkrumah House members who were in school teamed up with their Housemaster (Mr. Cletus Mifetu) to green SOGASCO by planting trees at vantage points on campus.
This promted the news team to interview the Housemaster. According to the Housemaster, the planting of trees on campus is a project the House had outlined to achieve in the 2013/2014 academic year.
He said,"The day's activity was undertaken to honour and celebrate the life and good work of Ghana's first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. Some of the seedlings that were planted are Exotic Mango and Cassia Cassia Nodosa.

The Eye Media congratulates Nkrumah's Housemaster and his house members for the good work they are doing. Ayekoo...
Every term, parents pay huge amount of money for their wards to be fed by the school. They hoped this would help cater for the needs of their wards. It is sad, however, to note that students of SOGASCO do not patronize dining hall food prepared by the kitchen staff. Most students are found loitering about and others also sit in their dormitories during dining.
This prompted the news team to interview the school matron who told us the cause of the low patronage. According to the school matron, at the beginning of the term, most students do not patronize the dining hall food because they have just arrived from their homes and they have enough food in their chop boxes.
She again stated that students come to the dining hall in the middle of the term when they do not have food in their chop boxes
Counselling is a very crucial need of the adolescent if he/ she is to develop into a responsible adult. For that matter, every school is supposed to offer counselling service to the students.
SOGASCO is one of the few schools with a counsellor with several years of experience in the person of Mr. Godson K. Kudanu. The school's counsellor helps both staff and students to overcome their problems and cope with tough situations. He also advices school management on certain issues when necessary.
Unfortunately, students of SOGASCO are not making good use of the school's counsellor. It is shocking that some students do not know the counsellor in person, his name and where his office is located. Some students even asked the newsteam if the school have a school counsellor.
Some students said they do not have time for counselling because they can solve their their own problems, but when the newsteam asked them who is a counsellor? they could not aswer the question.
A group of students suggested that, because most students are shy to go to the counsellor for advice, there should be a special box mounted at a vantage point where students can write and put their problems for attention.
The newsteam hopes school management will consider the suggestion of some students and also advice the student body not to shy away from counselling because being counselled on certain issues helps the individual to take good decisions.
On the 21st September,2013, a retreat was organized for general and house level post holders by the Senior Housemaster: Mr. C.Y. Sokpah and the Assistant Headmaster, Administration: Mr. J.G. Adomah. The agenda for the retreat were as follows:
-
Duties of post holders.
-
General response of students to activities in the school.
-
Appropriate arrival procedure and time for student when school resumes.
-
Bad tables manners observed in and out of the dining hall.
-
Possession of mobile phones by students in school.

The Senior Housemaster expressed his displeasure about how post holders seem relaxed and refused to perform their duties. He went on to remind them of their roles as prefects. He was also unhappy about how some house C.Os were not supervising the juniors to perform their morning duties.
Secondly, he spoke on the general behaviour of students at preps and at other school gatherings. He adviced that, the senior prefect and his team should monitor the juniors durings preps and asked him to report colleagues who misconduct themselves to any authority.
The Senior Housemaster also spoke on how some students report to school late (that is after 5pm) and during weekends when school resumes. Just this term, some students have been sent back home for either reporting late or reported on weekend. These students are expected to report early morning tuesday, 24th September, 2013. He cautioned house prefects not to accomodate such people in their dormitories.
Mr. C.Y. Sokpah briefly touched on the rate at which students took their meals out of the dining hall to their dormitories. He again adviced all to desist from that act.
The Assistant Headmaster, Mr. J.G. Adomah took over the baton and spoke on the new style students have adopted to use mobile phones. From his submission, he was tipped off that, some boarding students bring and keep their phones with day students and later request for them when they need to use them especially during preps. He cautioned all present to refrain from such act because such an attitude is against school rules and regulations.
After his submission, a platform was given for questions to be asked. There were no questions and on that note the meeting came to a close.
